I stayed at the Kenyir Lake Resort and Spa for my visit here as it was the best place in the entire area. Update : The Lake Kenyir Resort was closed down many years back for refurbishment and has yet to be opened again.

Of course butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies, insects, reptiles and amphibians are common in the Tasik Kenyir area. It is indeed a wildlife and nature-lover's haven. Other wildlife that can sometimes be seen in the surrounding forests include otters, macaques, tapirs, white-handed gibbons, sumatran rhinoceros, Asian elephants, wild cats, panther, malayan tiger and sun-bears.
Fishes, Fishes and Fishes The serene and placid waters of Tasik Kenyir disguise the presence of myriads of fishes that live in it. Toman, baung, kelah, sebarau, lampan sungai, parang, kawan, terbul and many other species of Malaysian fishes abound in the waters and the rivers, making it one of the most popular angling spots in Malaysia, especially during the rainy season at the end of the year. And as one of the access points to Taman Negara, you can visit the Kelah Sanctuary located at Sungai Petang in Petang Island, which takes about 40 minutes by speedboat from Gawi Jetty, and a further half-hour trekking.
The Kelah Sanctuary, covering an area of more than hectares, is a gazetted protected zone for the preservation and breeding of local Malaysian Mahseer kelah and fresh-water fishes, and therefore fishing in the area is strictly prohibited. Have a picnic at some of the many Waterfalls here. The more popular waterfalls have facilities such as washrooms and restareas that have been cleared. Lasir Waterfalls is located 16km or 30 minutes boat ride away from Pengkalan Gawi, the main gateway to the lake. This waterfall is about feet high and is surrounded by lush greeneries and rocks, typical scene of a tropical rainforest. Saok Waterfalls is another waterfall that is about 15 minutes boat ride away from Pengkalan Gawi.
This waterfall has cascading waters over its rocky terraces. There is a flat sandy area at the foot of the waterfall that makes it an ideal place for a time of picnic with your family or friends. Tembat Waterfalls consists of 5 rapids of fast flowing cascades. This waterfall is about an hour boat ride from PengkalanGawi. It has a large area for camping and is one of the most popular camping site.
There is a trail that leads to the top of the fall. Taman Herba Tasik Kenyir is a park with over species of traditional herbal species.
Species that are planted at the Located about 7km or 10 minutes boat ride from Pengkalan Gawi. Most of these herbs have medicinal values and you can savour some of the herbalbeverages here. A good view of Tasik Kenyir can be seen at the Bewah and Taat limestone hills. Taat has 3 caves with the lower cave knownas Tok Bidan Cave submerged under water.
