Can you paint modular home walls

It is a primer and Paint all in one and works perfectly! I have an older mobile home manufactured in The walls in the bedroom are peeling and it looks like thin paper, how do I prep the walls to paint and when I do paint whats the best kine.

Prime with it, then paint with a good quality paint, and you should be good to go! I am wanting to paint my walls in my mobile home. I have one section that does not have the vinyil wallpaper on, I am trying to find where I can get where it would have the same texture.

Can you please help me where I can find it, or what I should do. You may want to check at your local Home Depot or Lowes for the vinyil wallpaper for the one wall. Once you get that up you can paint it all with the best paint you can afford, it really does make a difference. In my post I used the Glidden 3 in 1 which is a paint and primer all in one and it covers the vinyil wallpaper beautifully!

I hope that helps. My sister is moving into a mobile home and we are trying to update it and make it more homey feeling. I think a new coat of paint would help a lot.

I really like your tip to use a paint with a primer in it. Hi Gina, I was just reading this thread and wanted to ask a question. I just purchased a dbl wide home whose interior has never been painted. All of the walls are white vinyl wall board with the exception of the kitchen which has a print. Taking your advice, I am thinking of using the Glidden 3 in 1 paint for the white walls.

Will one coat of that paint be enough or do you think I will need two coats? Also, because of the print in the kitchen, I am thinking of using a coat of the Glidden Gripper to cover the print and then a coat of the Glidden 3 in 1. What are your thoughts? Hey Kim, You may need to do an extra coat on the print in the kitchen. You will know if you need extra coats, but you should be fine with just the 3 in 1 for the whole project, good luck!

We recently purchased a 29 yr old mobile home on a lake. The vinyl wallpaper print is awful but in fairly good shape. After reading several blogs about painting the walls, my sister-in-law and I tackled the living room about 4 weeks ago.

We used Kilz as a primer and then good quality Valspar paint,,,everything covered very nicely. BUT,,,now the paint and the primer is peeling and chipping everywhere it is bumped!

I am so discouraged! Anyone have any suggestions? I have 5 more rooms to paint and do not want to start until I get this problem solved.

Also, there was questions about the glued on mirrors. We have the same on one end,,,they do not come off! I plan to cover them with a nice quality wood-like paneling. I know most people are trying to get RID of the paneling in their mobile home,,,but this is the only solution I have come up with to cover them up. Any suggestions that do not include scraping all the existing paint off will be greatly appreciated!

I used the Glidden 3 in 1, and have never had peeling issues. Do you know how I can find the paint? I have not been able to d the Glidden Performance 3 in 1 paint. Do you know of a similar brand that is just as good?

Or could you advise me where to find the Glidden 3 in 1? I have had great success with it , but there are other high quality brands that provide the 3 in one coverage too. I would just ask your local home improvement paint clerk who they recommend.

Will the paint work the same on paper wallpaper not the final but the paper in the older mobile homes? Hey Debra, Yes, it sure will, just make sure to use the best quality paint you can afford. Many thanks for this great painting advice! Have you done it? Your reply is greatly appreciated! They make so many good paints for metal now. I see that you mentioned the Glidden Performance Edge can be found at Home Depot, Lowes, or Wal-Mart however I am unable to find this specific line on any of their websites including my local store and online options.

How did you purchase yours? Hey Brooke, I actually received the paint from Glidden but at the time this was several years ago it was readily available at all of the places you mentioned. The most important thing is to use a primer and paint all in one product. There are so many great ones out there these days. I just purchased a mobile home, built in The first thing I want to do is paint, I believe the walls are vinyl, but they have all been painted over by the previous owners.

Do you think this will be good enough to paint with? Good luck!! I have found that Zinsser Primers are the best, it was recommended by a man who used to be a painter. When I asked him about Kilz, he said no, Zinsser was a far better option. I bought one of the high quality Zinsser Primer, which can be colored in whatever color you choose.

Gina, We are in the process of purchasing a park model and would like to re-paint the walls. Do you have any suggestions? Also do you prefer a flat or satin finish?? Thanks, Gena. You should be fine to paint over the current painted walls and use the best paint you can.

Hello, Love your information. Most of my walls in my mobile home, or modular home, like the real estate broker referred to them. HAHA, have been sheet-rocked. Laundry room, kitchen and bathrooms are still those pre-papered panels. When we patched the hole with that quick patch stuff that comes in a jar, it just ripped some more.

Kind of like weak paper. Is there some special secret to hanging pictures in these walls. We have actually covered all of our walls with Bead board. It looks great and is durable and makes them able to hold up even large and heavy pictures and signs. Best of luck to you! I want to paint my mobile home. What kind of paint should I uses to paint the paper covered particle board trim?

I was wondering if the 3 in 1 or kilz and paint in one will cover when your wall has a tiny texture. Will it give a smooth look to the wall since it fills in small holes.

It will cover well but I am not sure about the smooth finish? I really think that it will brighten the place up. Thank you so much! Mine has a thin metal lip on bottom. I found it interesting how you mentioned how good paint can last longer and how cheaper paint flakes easily off the walls. My wife and I are currently trying to fix up our park home to sell it because we are moving to a larger home.

I will definitely keep this in mind and invest in the higher quality paint to increase the home value! I want to paint the walls in the bathroom of our ancient manufactured home. Currently they have a covering that looks like formica or some sort of very smooth, slick sheet product. Any recommendations. I am not sure Linda, we covered almost all of the walls in our home with either shiplap or bead board for that reason. Thanks for this post! Have you had any luck with wallpapering?

Just wondering if there was a way to keep the patterns on the vinyl from showing up on the walls after they are painted. How can i remove latex paint from my trim. I have given up trying to find the 3 in 1 paint in southern CA. Your email address will not be published.

Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Comments The color in the picture. What is it and is it glidden? Ok this pretty much all about walls. What about those old vinyl ceilings?

Hey Cindy, If you use high quality paint that should not happen! What about mobile home walls that are the paper ,not vinyl. Will it work the same? I wonder the same thing. I painted the bathroom walls and some of it bubbled. I do Megan, and grandbabies!

That is great for you Kelli, good luck with it!! Great tip. Very good to know! Hi Barbara We just recently purchased a park model and the Arizona room has wood paneling that I would like to paint.

Beautiful wall color you have there! Thanks for all the info on the new Glidden paint! LOVE Maria at inredningsvis. And — manufactured homes are usually laid out much better than a stick built…. TY Gina for the info This kind of paint will save me a lot of work.

If you use a good quality paint and primer it should work beautifully! I just painted right over the strips. You can caulk them in, but it does take a long time.

What is the best paint to use in a baby room? Thanks for any suggestions. I also need to paint this type of cabinet. What did you used to fill in the crack left after removing the strip?. Great post! Been reading a lot of tips for painting my walls.

Thanks for the info! Thank you for your help. Getting ready to do a make over on a small mobile home. Can this be used under chalkboard paint? Thanks April, paint and primer all in one is awesome, good luck! Hey Deborah, I used the Glidden 3 in 1, and have never had peeling issues. Use only foot-long pieces. If you use longer pieces and can lead to stretching the tape, resulting in paint possibly bleeding through your tape! Step 4 : Go ahead and tape of all of your surfaces; ceiling, door frames, floor trim, tile, etc.

Step 5 : When taping trim, you might have excess tape due to its width. You can use this to better protect your horizontal edges. Apply your edge of the tape to the trim as close to the wall as possible, and if you leave the extra tape sticking out like a roof overhang or gutter, it will catch any extra paint that falls, spills, or runs down the fall.

Step 6 : Run your finger over every section of tape to make sure that the tape is sealed on every surface. Step 7 : While you are taping, if you come to a corner, you should cut two strips of tape with a 45 degree-angle. Fit the two pieces properly together for safe and secure corners! Step 8 : Cover other areas you want to protect from being painted by laying down drop cloths, paper, or plastic. A more detailed guide for taping a room off before you begin painting mobile home walls can be found here.

Taping, even though it has many steps, is only one step in preparing a space for painting. Here are some other steps to get you ready! Step 1 : Remove furniture from the area you are painting. Besides the possibility of getting paint splatters on your furniture, leaving them in your room could also be dangerous. You can either move them out of the room, or if you have a bigger space, into the middle of the room. Step 2 : Lay down drop cloths to protect your floors.

Remember that we recommended reusable canvas drop cloths. They are sturdier and absorb paint so the likelihood of trailing paint through the rest of your mobile home is lessened. Try painting barefoot too. Then you know if you stepped in wet paint! Step 3 : Remove paintings, picture frames, and posters from your wall. It is easier and quicker to take them down than trying to paint around them.

Step 4 : Clean the walls with your sponge. Remember, only use a few drops of water mixed with a few drops of dish detergent. Step 5 : Fill small holes in your wall with your hole filler. Step 6 : Remove your light switch and electrical socket plates. Again, it is easier to take them than painting around them.

If you are also painting your ceiling, remember to remove lighting fixtures and fans. Step 7 : Tape up your room so that the surfaces you do not want painted will be protected.

Make sure not to accidently tape the walls you are painting, otherwise, you will have surprise round of peek-a-boo with your old wall color. Step 8 : The next thing to do that will really set your prep a grade above the rest…make a staging area! Set up space where you will store your open cans of paint, trays, brushes, rollers, etc.

Save time by not misplacing items and moving around to five different places just to pour some paint. Types of Paint. If your mobile home has ceramic tiles in any of the rooms, you can refresh them with a new coat of paint. Bob Vila says this is a lot less expensive than replacing the tiles, and paint adheres well to ceramic, natural stone, unglazed quarry tile and porcelain.

Choose a mildewproof latex epoxy paint for ceramic, unglazed quarry and porcelain. An acrylic latex paint designed for stucco or interior masonry is best for natural stone tiles.

Vinyl-on-gypsum VOG wall panels are probably the most common kind of interior mobile home walls, and MHVillage explains that these are made of drywall with sheets of vinyl applied to them. VOG seams are usually covered by plastic strips, which are called battens. When painting mobile home walls, you may want to keep the battens or remove them. Not everyone likes how they look, but removing them takes time and effort; doing this is optional.

Taping is the best option if you are texturing your manufactured home walls or if you prefer a smooth finish. Cover the floors and furniture with drop cloths. Clean the walls with a mild detergent or TSP solution and a rag. Go over each surface twice, then finish by wiping down with a fresh cloth dampened with clear water.

Once the walls have dried, use painter's tape to mask the edges along the trim, ceiling, and floor. If the walls have any kind of damage or holes from nails or screws, fill them with spackle and then sand smooth, following the manufacturer's directions. Again, make sure not to damage the vinyl coating on the wall panels when sanding. The vinyl surface of VOG panels will accept paint better if you first coat them with a good quality acrylic primer.

Applying primer is done like any painting job. Start by using an angled trim brush to cut in the primer along the edges of the wall, then apply the primer to the broad areas using a roller.

Two light coats are best. Make sure the primer dries fully between coats. After the primer is fully dry, apply one or two coats of high-quality acrylic latex paint. Again, use an angled trim brush first to cut in the edges , then use a roller to paint the large expanses.

If two coats are necessary, make sure the first coat dries fully before applying the second coat. Low sheen or flat paint bonds better than high-gloss and is less likely to show imperfections in the walls, but high-gloss paint is often recommended for bathrooms and kitchens, where the walls will need to be washed frequently.

Finish by removing painter's tape and folding up drop cloths.
